How to Take Better Photos

What makes a good photo ?

Understanding these attributes can help you take better photos and become a better
photographer regardless of the type of equipment you use… even a polaroid camera.

1 – Lighting : Good or creative use of available light or flash.
2 – Composition* : without good composition, the photo is an essay without punctuation.
3 – Angle : You can hide or accentuate flaws or features using the angle you shoot from.
4 – Perspective : Depends on your choice of lens or focal length. Invoke intimacy or flair in your photos.
5 – Exposure : Creative use of exposure to create mood.
6 – Shutter Speed/Aperture : to add action or mystery to your photos.
7 – Background : Careful choice of background makes a world of a difference.
8 – Meaning : How the viewer relates to your photo is paramount.
9 – Timing : This enables you to catch the moment that tells the story.
10 – Pose : For portrait photography, this is 60% of the photo.

*Composition includes: line, shape, form, color, and texture/pattern.
